Analogue to Digital
Video encoders, also referred to as video servers, allow the signal from CCTV cameras to be converted into digital/IP form.
Conversion is desirable where the existing CCTV cameras are still useful, or where it would be difficult and costly to replace existing coax cables with new network infrastructure. It allows the benefits of IP video to be realised very quickly at relatively low cost.
For many installations this typically involves:
- Decommisioning of existing DVRs and control equipment.
- Installation of video encoders at a central location.
- Installation of IP video recoding platforms such as NVRs or a PC based recording solution.
Beyond this it is possible to take a step by step approach, replacing analogue cameras as and when they become unusable, and installing new network cameras and modern network infrastructure as the opportunities arise.
Digital to Analogue
A video decoder takes video from an IP camera on the same network, and reproduces it via an analogue output. This is particulary convenient for using analogue display screens where PC or network infrastrucuture is not suitable.
