Does my camera need protection?
There is a choice of housing solutions to protect cameras from threats such as:
Not all cameras need further protection. Increasingly we are seeing all-in-one solutions (such as vandal resistant fixed dome cameras) which can save money and simplify the installation.
Can I use housings to place indoor cameras outdoors?
At your own risk.
'Indoor' cameras do not have auto-iris protection against sunlight so you risk damaging the sensor over time. Also they are generally less capable of handling contrasts in light, something which is exaggerated on sunny days.
Despite this some customers report that they are happy with the performance of certain indoor cameras when used outdoors, and have taken measures to ensure sunlight is not hitting the sensor directly.
