Benefits of using Network Cameras
- Also known as IP cameras or web cams, they connect directly to networks without the need for a PC.
- Network cameras are intelligent devices that allow video data to be analysed (e.g. video motion detection) and processed (e.g. email images, send alerts) on board. They can work indepently without the need for a central controller.
- In-camera analysis allows network cameras to greatly reduce the amount of unnecessary network traffic and data storage.
- Advances in analysis are now allowing IP cameras to make human-type decisions which allows for more effective reporting of events (e.g. detecting abandonded luggage).
- Significantly better quality is achieved with IP cameras where digital imaging is used throughout. Analogue CCTV loses quality in the transport and conversion of image data . Analogue cameras need to convert the digital image captured by the sensor, send a gradually degrading analogue signal over coax cables, only to convert back to digital for recording onto a DVR.
- Network Cameras with PoE (Power over Ethernet) support can be installed without the need for electrical work. Instead power is transfered over spare wires in the network cable using PoE network equipment. This reduces cost, effort and mess.
- Cabling is much cheaper and future proof. A single network cable replace the need for individual video, audio and control cables (as well as power). You can to build and add to existing CAT5/5e cable infrastructure, and avoid analogue cabling which is nearing obsolescence. Wireless networking can also be used.
- The convenience of using network cameras is matched by their diversity in applications. Secure live access can be provided to anyone that a person or orgnaisation which is to reach, across networks and the Internet. Video can be captured on PCs or NVRs (network video recorders) for security, R&D and management applications.
