Power over Ethernet
Power over Ethernet allows power and data to be sent along the same cable to any compatible device. This not only saves on electrical work but allows power to be conveniently managed from a central point.
Starting with simple 10/100 PoE switches; Gigabit ports, management functionaility, and slots for fibre connectivity are added further up the range.
PoE Switches produced by Netgear are a cost effective way to to provide PoE to your cameras and other compatible devices. These switches provides both network communication and PoE.
Midspans and Splitters
Midspans are simple devices which only inject power into an existing data network. They are not able to transfer data and so need to be combined with network equipment.
For cameras that do not have built in PoE support, splitters can separate the data and power for them.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
UPS has been traditionally used to allow continued operation of servers and other critical equipment in the event of a power failure.
Combined with PoE, UPS can provide power to large numbers of remote devices from a central point. So your entire network of IP cameras can remain operational if the power is cut.
PoE and UPS allow network cameras to provide significant cost savings and operational advantages.
